Good Steel

On a properly heat treated blade the steel should be flexible. You should be able to flex the edge of the blade and it should spring back to its original position. This is a sign of a good heat treatment. Here is a video where you can see just that.

Custom Neck Knife Sheath

This is one big knife. I had a request to make a sheath for a knife and I said sure thing. Well I was a little surprised when I seen the knife, it looked like it needed a scabbard, not a neck knife sheath. I had to modify the blade a little but I like the way it turned out. Don’t think I will be carrying around a knife of that size but hey, you can if you want!

Restoration of Handle

Knives by Patrick Roehrman of MT Knives
These are two of my favorite knives. Handle without sealant
If you don’t protect the handles they will loose their luster, so here is a knife I made before I started sealing the handles. Over time this is what the Ironwood will look like. Ironwood handle after restoration
And Here is after it has been restored.

Going to wrap up another one soon!

Took a little break from working on knives this weekend and had a good time with David Wendell from Bushcraft On Fire! I learned tons of new stuff about bushcraft and had a great time. David is really knowledgeable, and a great teacher! He takes time to personally answer each email. That is saying a lot for someone who gets over 400 e-mails a day, if he spent one minute reading and responding to each one that would be almost 7 hours a day! I would like to Thank Him for taking the time to work with me. Many people of His skill would charge a ton of money to put on a class, but […]

Life Saving Advice

This may seem silly to some, but many others can attest to the fact that carrying a knife could save your life! Now I went around many years not carrying a knife, and I am still alive. In fact I would guess most Americans don’t carry knives. Now I have heard many stories of how having a knife has saved people from could be harmful situations. The first thing that will come to most peoples mind is for self defense, but that is one of the last situations I am thinking of.

How about this the other day I heard of a story about a guy who’s children […]
