Being Self-employed
Being self-employed isn’t what most people think. Now I bet you are expecting me to tell you how bad it is, or rather how good it is, but really all I am saying is it isn’t what most people think. 😀 This has been an incredibly productive week and a long one as well. I have shifted back to the graveyard shift, I really enjoy working at night. There are little to no distractions, and I am more awake and alert… Well some of the time.
I shot a lot of video this week. I bet for every video I post online I shoot 5 others. I really like the time lapse video feature on my phone. Keeping the site up with the weekly updates has been fun and encouraging. I have decided to try and be more regular on my YouTube channel as well. I have lots of great ideals on how to carry that out, however I would love to hear some of your suggestions of what you may like to see.
I am sure you probably seen the video I posted earlier this week with splitting the hair. I am super excited I got that on video. That may of been one of those once in a lifetime moments. I am pretty confident that may of been the first time that has ever been done. Even if it isn’t it was still impressive (not trying to toot my own horn, I was probably as surprised as you were when I realized what I had done) I wish I would of framed that hair 😀 but Wife I am sure is glad I didn’t. She is grossed out by hair. I measured some hairs with my calipers and got between .0025 and .003 so no matter which way you split it that hair was under a thousandth of an inch thick when I was done! 😉
So here is the first video that I put together for you guys, I hope you enjoy it!

I am not sure what took more work, the knives, or editing the video and I still messed it up 😀 Oh well, hopefully they will get better as time goes on 😉  I hope you have a great weekend, enjoy your rest. I know I will!
When I used to be a member of the Indiana blacksmith association; working at night was the best way to see the \”True\” temperature of the iron. I found nothing quite like it. God I miss it sometimes and what a great group of guys.
Yeah, if I am heat treating I try to do it in the pitch black. That is the best way to see the true color of the steel.
Being self employed is both wonderful and sometimes terrifying. Talk about having a harsh boss – you are always your own worst critic. 😉
