Alien Invasion!
Alien Invasion in my shop. I look like something out of a low budget Syfy movie. Not only do I look silly but some people say the things that come out of my shop are “out of this world” Like these new scales for the Genesis 😀
Maple 3D Genesis
This Genesis is a one of a kind, pictures really don’t do it justice. Last week I started in on the final batch of Rangers, I am grinding finishing up grinding the blades and will be attaching the handles soon! They have come a long ways but still have quite a ways to go.
Grinding 20 knives sure takes some time, I spend 5-10 mins per knife per grit at this stage. And even more time when I get down to the last couple of belts.Â
This is a 3M Trizact Belt, I really like all 3M products. They sure have things figured out and make an excellent product. They provide good airflow to help keep the knife cooler. This is more of an intermediate belt, it helps get the scratches from your stock removal out, and gets it ready for the finishing belts. Although they look like a really aggressive belt, they don’t move a ton of steel like you would think. As many 3M products as I use maybe they would want to sponsor me 😀

This is knife looks pretty good but still have plenty of finishing to do on the mirror finish.

Also, the new scales on the Genesis are really rocking! Do you have a kydex holster all set up yet?
Not sure what you mean? A sheath for belt carry? Not really, I have one that I made, the problem is getting the holes to line up properly. I haven’t had time to tinker with it.
Your getup does look like a Halloween costume! I think I’d go cross eyed pretty quickly wearing those magnifiers.
Glad to hear your down to the last batch of knives, I’m sure the stake holders will be thrilled to receive their knives! once they are all finished up will you be taking a break and maybe going to the training you have talked about attending? It seems like you’ve been none stop for a while and some vacation or at least time spent being creative would be in order.

Yeah it takes some getting use to for sure. I also have some safety glasses that have magnification in some bifocal type lenses. The hardest part is having the right distance from what you are looking at, sometimes causes you to hunch over which isn’t good.
All the stakeholders should have their knives, these last ones are going to the public, but yes I am sure people are going to be glad to get them! I will take a little break but, breaks are a little harder when you don’t have paid vacations 😀 I plan on going to that training if I can get in in time, there is only one spot left in April. But you have to prepay for it, and right now I can’t swing that, so we will see. It may have to wait till the fall. I will for sure be working on some knives that I have been wanting to build.
