Limited Time TSP Genesis Sale

TSP “Val” Genesis

I have had several request for a run of TSP Val Genesis. The last time we ran them it was a huge success. These are only going to be available for a limited time, and probably won’t be available again for quite a while.  This run is going to have the “Val” logo in place of the MT Knives logo in the photo (the MTK logo will be on the back side) Unless there is a landslide of orders They should ship in 2-3 weeks if not sooner.

The Deadline for ordering will be Friday May 26th by Midnight.

Learn to make knives… the MTK way!

My first time teaching people to learn to make knives went really well!

During The 2017 Survival Podcast’s Spring Workshop this past month I helped eight people to make their very first handmade knife! It was an amazing experience! When Jack asked me to help people learn to make knives with this class I really wanted them to come away knowing something about knifemaking and I think they did! It was my first time teaching a class like this and I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t have enough time to teach everyone to make their knives in the short time that I had available to me. Especially since I was just one instructor among 15 different breakout workshops!

Thankfully, […]

Stakeholder of the Month

I thought it would be fun to feature a Stakeholder of the Month so you and I could hear from the people who help make it MT Knives Great! It is also encouraging for me  to hear from them in their own words why they decided to support MT Knives. So Here is the first one.

When Life Gives You Lemons

Lemons

Lemons are good but Lemonade is better! Sometimes when making knives you make mistakes, some can be fixed and others cannot. I have always said integrity is the most important quality of a knife maker, in fact I think integrity is the most important quality of any person.  Where am I going with this? Well with over 1,000 Genesis produced it was bound to happened, the last Genesis I got in didn’t pass my rigid standard of quality. The laser cutting left some deep marks that will not come out without having to remove too much steel! Fortunately the knives are not worthless, they just are not up to my standards. In […]

Three Determining Factors for Proper Sharpening Angles

Proper Sharpening Angles

Sharpening Angles

I get asked all the time what the proper angle to sharpen a knife is. There is no one perfect angle for all applications, just like a mechanic doesn’t use a one-size-fits-all wrench to work on your car. Anyone with experience with knives, axes, and other tools sharpen each tool based on several different factors. If I was going to go with a one-size-fits-all approach to sharpening I would recommend you starting around 22 degrees (most knives are sharpened on both sides so that is a overall 44 degree edge). This is a good starting point that has been recommended for years.

Confession to […]
